Strandcafe Alte Donau

Vienna, Planning

The legendary Strandcafe on the Alte Donau in Vienna has been rebuilt. The idea of a building in the middle of greenery that opens toward the Alte Donau was implemented spatially down to the last detail – from the shady beer garden surrounded by greenery, which guests especially appreciate in midsummer, down to the floating beer garden, the raft. The terrace right next to the building lures guests outdoors early in spring. The southwest orientation, the sheltering building and the view of the Alte Donau and the public promenade are very attractive to guests. A generous flight of stairs leads on to seating terraces right on the water and to the raft. The seating areas are highly differentiated and designed to be used as flexibly as possible, depending on the season and how busy it is. Besides functionality for the restaurant, another important design criterion was the connection to Vienna.
